Y - The Pop Group

Photobucket
SHE IS BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL.
The rest will follow.
Essential album post-punk with elements of garage, proto-punk sounds and jazz.

Robot World - Bailter Space

Photobucket
This is an absolute beauty of an album. This NZ outfit, clearly and equally influenced by the likes of The Clean, Joy Division and on the other hand My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Swervedriver, have to be one of the only shoegaze New Zealand bands out there. This noisy album really is a pleaser, and is essential to the shoegazers library if they want to have the full shoegaze experience.

Pink - Boris

Photobucket
Pink is an absolute gem when it comes to drone metal. Boris heavy use of distortion/feedback drizzling through the amplifiers is rather quite pleasing to the ears. From more ambient metal to heavy distorted riffs, this album is definately one of the best ever drone metal albums ever. Top picks are "Just Abandoned Myself", "My Machine", "Afterburner", "Electric", "Farewell" and "Pseudo-Bread".

Giant Steps - The Boo Radleys

Photobucket
Perhaps most recognised for their britpop-esque hit "Wake up Boo!", The Boo Radleys perhaps unleashed their full potential on this stellar album Giant Steps. A combination of indie/britpop elements inter-twined with shoegaze, orchestral scores, jazz etc. makes this an aboslute delightful listen. My top picks are "Lazarus", "I Hang Suspended", "Butterfly McQueen", "Thinking Of Ways" and "Rodney King (Song for Lenny Bruce)".

Born Sandy Devotional - The Triffids

Photobucket
Born Sandy Devotional is an aboslute stellar album. The best rock band, yet alone the best band, to ever emerge from my shitty home town of Perth, have compiled an absolute gem here. Without one dull moment, the album's dark matter sometimes leads to David McComb achieving the dark, haunting vocals of Cave, however, and quite pleasingly, he pulls it off better than Cave could. "Lonely Stretch", "Tender is the Night", "Chicken Killer", "Wide Open Road", "Estuary Bed" and "The Seabirds" are just a few highlights from this wonderful album.

Waiting For a Miracle - The Comsat Angels

Photobucket
Marking their place in post-punk history along the sides of Pere Ubu, Wire and Magazine, this Sheffield outfit perhaps exposed their best side on their debut albu, but this is none the less an essential post-punk album. It's an absolute gem. Key picks are "Total War", "Postcard", "Map of the World", "Monkey Pilot" and "Waiting For a Miracle". Get it here.

Bored - Destroy All Monsters

Photobucket
In my bid to uncover the raw highly unproduced early material by DAM, I happened to stumble across the Asheton, Davis era DAM material. And I must add it's a damn good, effort, coming to think of it proto-punk has never sounded so refined and close to what would become punk. On this mini 7 track compilation, you'll find that the 7 songs all provide warm satisfaction as the trashy, raw guitar is spoon fed down your ears by Niagaras vocals. The song "Bored" got some attention, but otherwise the rest of the album is an uncovered gem waiting to be discovered.
